Walter Rauschenbusch is credited by many interpreters as the fountainhead of the social gospel in America. An American Baptist minister of German heritage, Rauschenbusch was the “prophet” of a movement that created a watershed in American religious thought. This three-volume set makes available the original texts of a seminal thinker in an authorized and critical edition. Volume II is oriented toward an ethical appreciation of the life and works of Walter Rauschenbusch. Ethicist David Gushee provides an in-depth analysis of Rauschenbusch’s ethics, tracing in particular the course of development of Christian ethics and Rauschenbusch's contribution.

The focus of this volume is on the varieties of religious experiences in sports on the global stage. The first generation of sports and religion scholars debated the ways sports intersected with or even replaced traditional religions and investigated self-identified religious adherents and institutions that have used sports in traditional religious contexts. Our task here is to expand, revise, and complicate this conversation. The essays in this volume look both within and beyond conventional frames to shine a light on the many facets of this endlessly compelling topic.

The Depths of Life: Paul Tillich’s Understanding of God
By author: Duane Olson
Publisher: Mercer University Press
Product Code: P594
ISBN: 9780881467260
Availability: In stock
Price: $25.00
Throughout his work, Paul Tillich critiqued the traditional monotheistic idea of God as a being alongside the world with definable properties, and he sought to replace this idea of God and the God-world relationship with another one. He regarded this replacement as vital for establishing a believable Christian theology, a relevant philosophy of religion, and a mutually beneficial understanding of the relationship between religion and contemporary culture. In this work of philosophy of religion geared to the non-expert, Olson explains Tillich's idea of God and the God-world relationship, showing how, for Tillich, God is both infused throughout the world and transcendent of it.

Baptist theologians Amy L. Chilton and Steven R. Harmon maintain that the congregational freedom cherished by Baptists makes it possible for their local churches to engage in a practice of theology informed by a full range of voices speaking from the whole church beyond the local church, past and present. In their coedited book SOURCES OF LIGHT, a diverse group of twenty-three Baptist theologians engage in a collaborative attempt to imagine how Baptist communities might draw on the resources of the whole church more intentionally in their congregational practice of theology.
