Oglethorpe, a brief biography / Amos Aschbach Ettinger ; edited with an introduction by Phinizy Spalding
This essay, never before published, won the Beit Prize at Oxford University in 1929. In it Ettinger provides a balanced and scholarly assessment of the life and achievements of James Oglethorpe. In the process he also offers insight into the methods and concerns of a masterful biographer and historian at the beginning of his task. As Phinizy Spalding notes, “there is a facet to Ettinger's writings on Oglethorpe that renders his judgments classic in their own field.”
