Colleagues
Richard B. Russell and His Apprentice Lyndon B. Johnson

By John A. Goldsmith

Fore more than two decades, Richard B. Russell of Georgia and Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas wielded immense influence on Major national decisions affecting the political life of the United States. The changing political and personal relationship of these two extraordinarily powerful men is engagingly described in Colleagues.

John A. Goldsmith, a graduate of Kenyon College, joined United Press International in Washington after service in World War II and a stint with the Troy (New York) Record. As a Capitol correspondent and eventually head of the UPI Senate staff, he covered the activities of the Senate on a daily basis, particularly the work of senators Russell and Johnson.
