God and Human Responsibility
David Walker and Ethical Prophecy Rufus Burrow, Jr. The first book to explore Walkers social activism in light of his religious convictions The argument of this book sees Walkers social activism as grounded in such religious convictions. Much like the Hebrew prophets, Walkers insistence that justice be done to his people was at times viewed as fanatical. But Burrow argues that such behavior was consistent with the eighth-century prophetic tradition. Burrow further argues that Walkers commitment and behavior should serve as an example to would-be-religious-based social activists today. Considered a study in prophetic ethics, the claim is made that not nearly enough has been written on the subject. Burrows book fills this void. Rufus Burrow, Jr., is Indiana Professor of Christian Thought and Professor of Theological Social Ethics at Christian Theological Seminary. He is the author of several books, including James H. Cone and Black Liberation Theology (1994). Also in the Voices of the African Diaspora Series W.E.B.
