Fat, Dumb, and Happy Down in Georgia cover
Fat, Dumb, and Happy Down in Georgia

by Bill Boyd

This book is based on some 3,500 personal columns written by Bill Boyd during his 25-year writing career with The Macon Telegraph. His subjects were mostly everyday people who normally got their names in the paper only when they were born, got married or died. But Boyd told their stories as if they were his own and he spoke in a language anyone could understand. Some of his stories are classic Southern humor that he used to entertain thousands of audiences on a speaking tour, and some are touching stories of sacrifice and endurance that will surely tug at the heart strings.

Bill Boyd is one of 18 children born to an Oklahoma sharecropper. He spent 20 years in the Marine Corps, serving in Japan, Cuba, Okinawa, and Vietnam. At the age of 38, he started a writing career at The Macon Telegraph. His literary efforts have garnered more than 20 writing awards from various press associations, including "Humor Columnist of the Year” from the Georgia Press Association in 1984.
