The major Baptist traditions in North America

This new Baptist history textbook highlights the diversity of the Baptist movement in North America as it has developed over the past few centuries. Under the Baptist tent are such diverse groups as Primitive Baptists, Freewill Baptists, Seventh-Day Baptists, American Baptists, Southern Baptists, North American Baptists, and Independent Baptists. Each of these Baptists groups shares some basic Baptist principles. However, there are significant theological and social differences between them. This book is the ideal survey for undergraduate-level students.

W. Glenn Jonas, Jr. (BA, MDiv, PhD) is Howard Professor of Religion and chairman of the department of Religion and Philosophy at Campbell University. He is a member of the American Society of Church History, American Academy of Religion, National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion, Baptist Historyand Heritage Society, and the North Carolina Baptist Historical Society. He is the author of A Critical Evaluation of Albert Henry Newman, Church Historian (1992), and has co-authored A Journey of Faith: Introduction to Christianity.
