A Scandalous Providence The Jesus Story of the Compassion of God by E. Frank Tupper This interpretation of the providence of God understands the story of Jesus as the definitive story of God which incorporates all our different stories, the cross and resurrection its high points and scandalous center. The events in the story of Jesus embrace the multiple polarities of suffering and hope, events which identify distinctive forms of the provision of God?from the promise of blessing to the question of protection, from the petition of prayer to the politics of compassion, from the struggle with temptation to encounters with tragedy, from the cry of the cross to the song of resurrection. The methodology and content of this pastoral theology is strikingly unique: It integrates biblical narrative and contemporary narratives with sustained theological reflection on issues central to a reformulation of the providence of God.
