Edmon L. Rowell, Jr.

Edmon L. Rowell, Jr. was in his first life a Baptist pastor (1957–1980), but from 1 August 1980 until 31 August 2010 (that's 30 years plus one month) was, among other things, senior editor of Mercer University Press. Significantly, he was the Press's editor of the 24-volume International Kierkegaard Commentary series, working closely with Complier/Editor Robert Perkins. Thus far, Bob and Edd are still on speaking terms.

Monographs on philosophers multiply daily but on occasion we must ask the question of why a particular philosopher matters. When Mercer University Press opened its doors more than thirty years ago, it committed itself to religious studies in general, and to several thinkers. One of those was Søren Kierkegaard. Now, as the Press concludes a major publishing event with the completion of the International Kierkegaard Commentary, it seeks to honor the only series editor it has known: Robert Perkins.
